Heaven

I have found heaven! On the corner of Second and Orange Street in Sarasota, Florida. Boca Bargoons is the most amazing fabric store. You never know where you are going to find inspiration.

Being Fresia's web sitter was so much fun for me.

Gypsy life

Town 177, day215, shows 408&409.

Frost

All night power! I woke at 5:15 and when I went outside I could see all the constellations, I was probably too enthusiastic telling everyone who came in my path to look at the amazing sky. We had a 5:30am call and that is the reason I was up at this very early hour. The sun came up during the drive and I could see the frost from the road. The frost was still on the ground at 7:30am when we arrived. We have 16 shows left.

Bacon !

thank you Jeremiah for making us BLT sandwiches !!!

Constant repair

Route 66

Who invented trails? I love trails !

Mentally insane

In South Jacksonville we found the closed down Insane Asylum. Is it even ok to say those words  A state hospital with its own coal and steam power and heat. The governor closed it down and it is empty buildings with a beautiful grounds . They say the daycare is built over the graves of deceased residents. They say all the residents were moved into halfway houses. The buildings they used for "shock therapy" are still there. So strange to think how people were strapped down and their brains and bodies were electrocuted into possibly acceptable behavior.

Mending,architecture and movie stars

We are mending the back door curtain. If we ever find someone to make a new one it will be a Christmas miracle.#duck-tape

Loving Frank Lloyd Wright ! The Dana-Thomas House. So many rooms, 200+ art glass windows. I am inspired!!

Trails and moons !!

thank you Jeremiah for not making pancakes !!

this is a prairie dog !!!

I started October off with a nice 4.5 mile hike. I love walking or hiking, I see and discover this wonderful land.

Working on my attitude

I walked over 7 miles today on the Illinois and Michigan Canal trail exploring. 46 shows to go. Marseilles , Illinois is a pretty town. Thank you America !

Walking around the town somewhere, Illinois

Chicagoland is mostly civilized except for the terrorists with their horrible homemade signs, their yelling, vulgarity and death wishes.
We have lots of 2 day stands, occasional night travel and this translates into beauty sleep. We who work in this traveling slice of magic find this most civilized.
I think most of the show has some kind of upper respiratory something or other.
I am loving the September night skies and watching the moon wax. Only 2 more full moons to go, the corn will be high and the circus can rest till March.

Travels with the circus - day 163, 60 days left

I am in Michigan, I have come to the realization that I can not blog on my iPhone.
Today we embark on shows 311/312. This is our 138th town. This am we drove 105 miles . this part of the planet always amazes me, at night ink drips on the sky and it becomes black. In the morning we can see the sun and the moon at the same time . We have 2 more full moons before the corn is high and it is time to go home. we have just experienced the hottest summer on record . Sweaty and stinky it was, I had to hand wash my jacket every other day . Yesterday was under 80f, it was so nice to be cool. We didn't have to set up all the big fans in the tent and I used only 1 for the aerial acts .

In Romeo, MI Bill Creed gave me a treasure, a beautiful jewelry box his dad made and his mom lined with felt . He stopped making them in 1995, they are numbered and inlayed with pennies . He made about 418 . I am the proud owner of 419 .

The top photo is of Bill and 2 town folk who enjoyed the tour in the rain ( my Ikea umbrella) and the woman in the marquee is shooting a television spot of Bill interviewing me about the circus. It looks like it was cool but it was raining and actually turned out to be another extremely warm day.

Johnny Kane

I want to know who took our perfect snow globe world and shook it so hard that everything went bizzaro.
Shows closing, people running amok with horrible words and assault weapons.
Everything is changing , nothing is a given .
However , we are still working and appear to be healthy.
Hope springs eternal for me.

this photo was taken in Sebring, Ohio 2016 days before the nails were driven into the casket of the Big Apple Circus. Johnny looks extremely refreshed. I am glad I had the luxury of enjoying the last 3 shows with him as ringmaster.

I hope that something magical happens and they rise from the ashes to perform at Lincoln Center NYC .

In my spare time

Washed wool
Unwashed wool

Washing wool
We followed a fiber festival, someone had left some sheared sheep so I picked it up, washed it, dried it and now I will somehow turn it into yarn.

missing stuff

I missed being an act yesterday. I had been quite content about not climbing, flipping and spinning. I missed the simplicity of having my focus of my 6 minutes of everything. Today I hung some fabric and climbed and did some "behaviors", now my arms are tired and my torso feels normal. Bliss

Crossing the Ohio river

Yesterday we crossed the Ohio river, always momentous to me . Driving over a great bridge and imagining the endless possibilities of everything . We landed in a sweet town just drying off from Derby fever . House entry ways were still decorated , gardens were bragging and the shops still had their derby ware inviting you in. I love town exploration .

Nothing is impossible when you work in the circus .

Open air affair
Waiting for the rain to stop , setting up in a different way .
Another remarkable day with a remarkable group .
2 shows a day , every day for 32 weeks .

Flames for the human volcano

I sew therefore I am.

Selfie with a round bale of hay

And this is how we make a carpet of hay for the floor.

Mud show in Kingston, OK @rodeogrounds

I have been a little busy what with only 1 day of rehearsal and a new season and mud and a new title to my list of things one does . I am ringmaster/performance director !!! You realize how incredible people are when you are seeing the big picture. Oh yeah, everyone on planet earth !!!! Tavana Brown is the general manager of The Kelly Miller Circus !!! Wendy Bell is dance captain !! Aerialists are taking over the world . There is more to tell about the big show but the public is waiting .
